how a silent blessing changed everything
what an unexpected gift from my father taught me about trust, healing, and the courage to follow your calling
I almost didn’t sign up for the life coaching program I’d dreamed about. The timing felt wrong, the cost felt heavy, and the doubts were loud. But what happened next—an unexpected gesture from my father—changed everything. This is a story about trust, healing, and the quiet ways love sometimes finds its voice.
For years, I dreamed of becoming a life coach, someone who could hold space for others with compassion while blending the ancient wisdom of yoga with practical tools for transformation. I imagined a path where personal growth and spiritual insight walked hand in hand. I wanted to offer a space where others could feel seen, supported, and empowered as they moved through life’s challenges.
In January 2022, I took a leap and enrolled in the Martha Beck Wayfinder Life Coach Training. At the time, I had no idea that decision would become a lifeline during a storm I couldn’t yet see.
But the choice wasn’t easy. Doubts crept in:
Would this be worth the investment?
Am I really worthy of pursuing this dream?
Old insecurities resurfaced, especially around money. Echoes of past financial decisions, and deeper still, the emotional undercurrents that had long shaped my relationship with worth.
I thought back to a moment years earlier, when I asked my father for help funding my yoga teacher training. He said no. And though I understood his reasons, the refusal cut deep. Money had always been a charged topic between us. I felt hurt—and, if I’m honest, entitled. I wanted him to see the emotional and spiritual value of my path.
Though we reconciled, the wound never fully healed. That tension between seeking financial support and feeling unsupported stayed with me.
When it came time to enroll in the coaching program, his health was declining. It didn’t feel like the logical time to commit to nine months of inner work and the study of new skills and information. And yet, something deeper urged me forward.
Then something unexpected happened.
One cold December day, my older brother arrived with a check from my father’s bank account. It was an early distribution of what would one day become our inheritance. The amount covered the cost of the training.
That moment cracked something open in me.
It wasn’t just about the money. It felt like a silent blessing.
This is your time. You’ve got this. Follow your heart.
For the first time in years, the heavy emotions around worth, scarcity, and approval began to soften. My father had offered a form of support I didn’t think he was capable of. He hadn’t said the words but this was his way of saying them. Forgiveness took root in a way it never had before.
When he passed away just six months later, midway through my training, everything deepened. His death brought a profound layer of meaning to the work I was doing. It affirmed something I now hold as both truth and possibility:
Healing and magic often reveal themselves when we step into the mystery of uncertainty with courage—and learn to let go of the outcome.
His final act of belief in me—delivered quietly and indirectly—became the catalyst for my healing. It taught me that true strength is found not in certainty, but in trust. And that sometimes, the most powerful gifts arrive when we finally stop trying to control the timing.
I didn’t just earn a coaching certification.
I reclaimed my voice, my worth, and my path.
I healed a story I’d been carrying.
And in doing so, I found the freedom to help others do the same.
That, I’ve come to learn, is the true magic of this work.
